Descaling tabs do not remove limescale, but primarily combat unpleasant odors. The bleaching agent contained in the tabs is intended to combat bacteria. However, as the bacteria reside in the limescale nests, they can only be effectively combated if the limescale is also removed. In addition, the descaling tabs usually have to be touched unprotected by competitors.
